Training Program

At its YTI Unit, YEL & PYI  offers a flexible array of courses designed to meet the specific needs of the developing labor market by providing industrials trainees with transferable skills and generalizable competencies.

The Institute works closely with other entities, both locally and internationally, to ensure that its industrial training curriculum stays aligned with the needs of employers and provides its learners with knowledge, skills, competencies, and qualifications needed by modern academia and industry.

 

Program Mission

The mission of the YEL& PYI English Training Program is to prepare Saudi Arabian students and trainees with the essential English Language skills which will help them to join the local industries and succeed professionally in their respective fields of work. By providing them with professionally delivered English language lessons, they will develop the communicative competencies needed to succeed in their respective areas of study and work. The training program will achieve its mission by teaching general and technical English in a disciplined environment that fosters self-reliance, personal responsibility and critical thinking skills.

Course Descriptions

Year 1

BSEN 1102 - English I is a first-semester, 8 credit hour English course (CEFR Level A2) designed to prepare high school graduates planning to pursue their technical degree at RCYCI, where the medium of instruction is English. The course is part of the Basic Skills Program and follows an integrated approach to teaching the four language skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing, with the focus on developing fluency and accuracy. The course uses blended learning strategies that emphasize student-centered learning, use of ICT, and collaborative activities that promote 21st century skills.

BSEN 1201 - English II is a second-semester, 8 credit hour English course (CEFR Level B1) designed to prepare Basic Skills Program students to pursue their technical degree at RCYCI, where the medium of instruction is English. The course is part of the Basic Skills Program and follows an integrated approach where students are exposed to the four language skills, as well as vocabulary and grammar, keeping a balance between general and technical English. The course uses blended learning strategies that emphasize student-centered learning, use of ICT, and collaborative activities that promote 21st century skills.

Year 2

ENGL 2101 – English Communication is a first-semester, 3 credit hour English for Specific Purposes (ESP) course designed for students who have completed their Basic Skills year. The course focuses on English communication in academic and professional settings –both oral and written. Oral communication skills include using effective communicative strategies in delivering presentations and participating in discussions. Written communication skills include writing business letters in a workplace. As a culminating project, students will present a topic related to their specialized fields or work-related topics incorporating the skills learned in class.
