Yanbu English Language Institute (YELI) has taken a giant leap by becoming the first establishment in the Gulf to get a10-year reaccreditation from the Commission for English Language Accreditation (CEA). Paying tribute to the unprecedented feat, the managing director of YELI, Dr. Wael Alharbi said, “Peak productivity doesn’t come with luck, but with awareness and an intent to work hard. The prestigious CEA accreditation is the gold standard for an institute like ours, and we are tremendously proud of our achievement”.
The coveted 10-year reaccreditation is the highest given by CEA, regarded globally as the most valued English language education quality standard. This means that, until 2027, YELI will be rated at par with most of the English language institutes in the USA and will be equal the top 100 universities in the world that have CEA accreditation. YELI, which is a part of the Royal Commission Yanbu Colleges & Institutes (RCYCI) was also the first institution in the region to be accredited by the CEA in 2012, when it operated under the name English Language center at Yanbu.
The celebration of the award was marked by the unveiling of a commemorative plaque by His Excellency, Dr. Alaa Nassif, CEO of the Royal Commission for Yanbu, who was accompanied by His Excellency, Dr. Salem Al-Etani, Director General of RCYCI, and Dr. Wael Alharbi. Appreciating the support and encouragement from the top management in this endeavor, Dr. Alharbi said, “I’d like to thank Dr. Alaa and Dr Salem for the support they have given us throughout the process and I’d like to thank all of the lecturers who’ve worked so hard towards this goal. CEA’s confidence in accrediting us for 10 years is a huge stamp of approval for YELI and its programs, and shows we are achieving our mission of being one of the leading language institutes in the Kingdom.”
The award of the 10-year reaccreditation marks the end of a thorough process. In the interim period, the Institute went through a long process of self-study and made a number of improvements in various areas of its activity in order to comply with the strict and demanding standards set by CEA. The submission of a 250-page self-study report was followed by a three-day site visit from four CEA reviewers who interviewed management and faculty, met students, checked documents and records and toured the YELI facilities.
YELI, which is responsible for all English language education in Yanbu Al-Sinaiyah, operates on four different sites. Its main site is located at Yanbu Industrial College, and its satellite units at Yanbu Technical Institute, and Yanbu University College’s Men’s and Women’s campuses. The report and the site review covered the faculty, students, services and programs at all of these sites.
“The Royal Commission Colleges and Institutes uses English as its medium of instruction, so ensuring the English language programs are effective is vital to the success of the whole sector” added Dr. Alharbi. “This prestigious award, from one of the world’s leading accreditors, is proof that we are meeting the standards that our students and their future employers deserve.”
